Blood Moon: What to Know About This Rare Lunar Eclipse Today

Hello everybody! This is Alex and I'm super excited about this new lunar eclipse. Not only is it the last lunar eclipse until 2021, but it is a rare super blood wolf moon!

Space enthusiasts are even more excited than I am because this lunar eclipse is a combination of three wonders. The three things that make up this lunar eclipse's name are:

1. The supermoon.

A supermoon is where the moon is closest to earth, appearing bigger and brighter than it is the rest of the year! 

Blood Moon:

A blood moon occurs when there is a full lunar eclipse. The sun passes through the Earth's atmosphere, and since they're right in front of each other, the violet and green get filtered out. And when the red light comes, it bends around the earth and shines on the moon.

Wolf Moon:

Every full moon has a name. Here's what they are.

After winter solstice:
Old Moon, Moon after Yule
Snow Moon, Hunger Moon, Wolf Moon!
Sap Moon, Crow Moon, Lenten Moon

After spring equinox:
Grass Moon, Egg Moon
Planting Moon, Milk Moon

After summer solstice:
Thunder Moon, Hay Moon
Green Corn Moon, Grain Moon
Fruit Moon, Harvest Moon

After autumnal equinox:
Harvest Moon, Hunter's Moon
Hunter's Moon, Frosty Moon, Beaver's Moon
Moon Before Yule, Long Night Moon

That adds up to the SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON.

Lunar eclipses only happen two or three times every year, so it's amazing that this phenomenal phenomenon is happening RIGHT HERE IN FORT WORTH!!!

How a Lunar Eclipse Happens

A lunar eclipse happens when the earth comes between the moon and the sun, so the moon has no light. Everyone knows that the moon only glows because of the Sun's light. Contrary to what most people assume, it becomes red instead of during black or invisible.
Why?

The atmosphere around our earth takes in the Sun's light. But since the moon is right behind us and the sun is shining all around us, the red light that usually reflects around the earth shines back onto the moon. It can be a bright red or a duller, richer copper.

When to See It

8:36--- The moon starts to be shaded.
9:33--- The moon gets mostly shaded.
10:41---The moon becomes completely red.
11:12---The moon is at its maximum redness.
11:43---The moon is not at its maximum redness.
12:50---The moon is only partially covered.
1:48---Lunar eclipse ends.

End of the World?

Some people are saying that the end of the world will happen tonight because of these Bible verses:

The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day. 

Acts 2:20

When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
