20 Strange Superstitions

Superstitions are strange things. Who decided that breaking a mirror meant seven years of bad luck, proclaimed that heads-up pennies mean good luck, or that there is a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow?

Anna has prepared a paragraph about 20 of the oddest superstitions. Here they are. -Alex

Hello, hello, hello! I am so sorry for not posting!

But now I am haha! My post for today is:

20 Weird Superstitions!!

1. A birdhouse is a sign of death.

How freaky. Thanks for the nightmare, superstition.

2. A loaf of bread shouldn’t be turned upside down after one slice is cut from it.

What about two? Muahahaha!

3. Never take an old broom with you when you move. Buy a new one.

Guess I have to kiss the dustpan goodbye.

4. If the first butterfly you see is white, you will have good luck all year!

Ummm… does it have to be alive? *squish* Oops…

5. If a black cat walks towards you, it brings good fortune, but if it walks away, it takes the good luck with it.

If that includes black dogs, I’m probably half dead by now!

6. An acorn at the window will keep the lightning out.

What if the acorn gets struck by lightning? ZAP!

7. If a dog howls while a person inside the house is sick, it’s a bad omen.

Buster, I am ashamed of you.

8. It’s bad luck to leave a house through a different door than the one used to come into it.

What does that mean?

9. If you catch a falling leaf on the first day of autumn, you will not catch a cold all winter!

10. If a mirror falls and breaks all by itself, someone in the house will die soon.

Ooh… one broke a couple years ago. ☠

11. Dropping an umbrella on the floor means there will be murder in the house cotton candy and rainbows for all! :)

Y’know what? Maybe I’ll hold the wedding band.

15. If you dream of a lizard, you have a secret enemy.

Nothing but nice thoughts… EXCEPT FOR THIS LIZARD THAT’S TRYING TO ATTACK ME!

16. If a friend gives you a knife, you should give him a coin, or your friendship will soon be broken.

Why on earth would a friend give me a knife?

17. You should never start a trip on a Friday, or you will meet misfortune.

Good thing spring break starts on a Monday!

18. Dream of running: a sudden change is going to happen in your life.

What if you dream you go to school at Costco and characters from 3 different books are there?

19. If a clock that hasn’t been working suddenly chimes, there will be a death in the family.

I never thought I’d be so glad that the grandfather clock never works.
