Hi everyone! Sorry for not writing for a long time. It's been a long time at school, with a lot of homework. But now I'm sitting on the couch in jeans and a messy bun and ready to blog once more!

As anyone who has met Anna knows, she absolutely loves the Greatest Showman. The action-packed scenes, the sighing at P.T. Barnum's very bad life decisions, but most especially... the songs.

Not counting the reprises, there are nine songs in the Greatest Showman, and here they are, ranked best to worst. Enjoy!

1. This is Me

Image result for this is me the greatest showman

This is Me, sung by Keala Settle, is easily the best song in the Greatest Showman. Despite the main character being P.T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman), the most lovable characters are the ones that really made his circus possible: Lettie Lutz (the Bearded Lady, played by Keala Settle), who suffered insecurity before letting her true nature shine; Charles Stratton (the midget, played by Sam Humphrey), who was haunted by the fear of being laughed at; and Anne Wheeler (the trapeze artist, played by Zendaya), caught in a forbidden love scenario. During This is Me, all of these insecurities melt away.

2. A Million Dreams

A Million Dreams is a beautiful love ballad between Charity and Phineas, starting off with them as children exploring an abandoned mansion, followed with the passing of letters as Charity is sent off to finishing school and Phineas is struggling on the streets. It finishes as the pair meets up again and start on the road towards a beautiful marriage and family. A Million Dreams is beautiful because of Ziv Zaifman's haunting vocals (lip-synced by Ellis Rubin) as young Phineas, and Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams' harmony as the duo grow up. Their scene on the rooftop (although framed by a strange, enlargened moon) is breathtaking, especially as you realize that they did most of their own stunts.

3. Rewrite the Stars

As stated before, Anne Wheeler (played by Zendaya) plays a forbidden love scenario with Phillip Carlyle (played by Zac Efron). This beautiful duet is sung shortly after the two prepare to go to the theater together, cut short after Phillip's parents shame her for being "different." Anne runs away with Phillip on her tail and a beautiful scene follows, with Anne swinging elegantly on ropes and Phillip trying to follow her, even jumping off a balcony to reach her (which could have gone horribly wrong very quickly!)

4. The Other Side

The other side is a close match to Rewrite the Stars, where P.T. Barnum tries to convince Phillip to break free of his rich, trapped life and join him in leading the circus. It starts with P.T. insisting that he's trapped and he needs him, while Phillip gamely refuses. Eventually, Phillip sees the light and asks how much of the show he would be taking. They eventually make a compromise at 10%. P.T. isn't super happy about it, saying "What I have is an overcompensated apprentice." The beats between the clanking cups and the tapping shoes truly make this a thrilling performance.

5. Tightrope

Tightrope is the least talked about song in the movie and though it can't match up to the other songs with intensity, it is clearly the sweetest and prettiest. Charity's voice is packed with emotion as her husband, who sang duets with her all those years ago, now goes off to promote his business, with another woman, one that's not bad looking either. Her life isn't the same without him, and she wants him back. But she's also scared-- will he ever be the same person again? She doubts his loyalty and his love for her, and in the end, is proven right.

6. The Greatest Show

The Greatest Show is probably the song that everyone thinks about when they hear of this movie. It both starts and ends the movie, with stomping and clapping at the beginning gradually giving way to horns and instruments and singing. It's a thrilling video with everything a circus could wish for: elephants, fire, trapeze artists, lions, and lots and lots of dancing, but with lyrics that could be better (it starts off with 9 whoas).

7. Come Alive

Come Alive is a very excitable song that ends in a very loud and rattling "So Come Aliiiiiiiiive!" It's a great song, but with weak lyrics. For the most part, they're singing "Dreaming with your eyes wide open," and only sing "Come Alive," once or twice. In my opinion, that should be the name of the song (Eyes Wide Open, or Dreaming With Your Eyes Wide Open).

8. Never Enough

Never enough is a beautiful song sung by someone with a beautiful voice. It would be a great song and much closer to the top of the list except for the woman behind it-- she tried to cheat with a married man (although P.T. is so much to blame for it). Also, because this song doesn't have any relation to the movie, it doesn't have that much emotion, only a stage act that she puts on and takes off.

9. From Now On

From now on, although it is a song of redemption, it is greatly undermined by the sins of his past and how he would rather apologize to the circus members, which he didn't do much do, than to his wife and children, which he's hurt beyond belief. It is entirely too long and so full of pride that it makes it an unpleasant song in general.

Again, sorry for not writing in a while. I hope y'all agree with my painstaking work that has taken quite a while and my order of songs.

Bye!

Alexis
